As
a part of my graduate program in
technology management, I took a series
of web design courses. For one of
my advanced design courses I was
fortunate to study under the tutelage
of Dawn Barnhart. The course was
challenging, however Dawn had a gift
for making difficult material accessible
and enjoyable. Her lectures were
engaging and she was always willing
to help a student navigate difficult
areas.
I should also mention Dawn’s
keen design sense. Naturally, as a
student it was important to have an
example of good design to follow. Dawn

During the fall semester
of 1999, I enrolled in the Emerson
College Web Production & Management
Certificate Program. Dawn taught
the graphical/technical portion of
the program.
Dawn’s presentations and explanations
of material were always well thought-out.
She succeeded in striking a balance
between teaching to students with extensive
graphical arts experience, versus those
that had practically none. In addition,
she was very good at helping students
understand the practical considerations
and constraints faced when creating & maintaining
websites. And last, she ensured that
the pace of her instruction was appropriate
for the class. At the same time, she
was mindful not to overwhelm us with
too many new concepts all at once.
She was astute at gauging how well
and how quickly students were comprehending
the material.

Institute of Art in Boston for the "Intro
to Web Design Course". I was
fortunate enough to have Dawn Barnhart
for the first 4 months of this course
where she in turned showed us how
to design graphics in Photoshop,
layout these graphics in Dreamweaver
and how to think about the web and
web design. She demonstrated to me
that she was a fantastic teacher
and an accomplished artist and web
designer. She's not only a great
teacher but very patient and more
than willing to help outside the
classroom. Even as much as a year
or more later I have consulted her
for advice on issues that were just
above my skill levels and she made
it much easier for me to understand
and then continue on becoming better
at what I was working on. She is
not only a fantastic teacher but
a great person and I make it a point
to be surrounded with people like
Dawn Barnhart!
